March 27, 2024

Dear Parents,

We are in the midst of the holiest week of our Christian calendar, the Easter Triduum. Holy Thursday commemorates, the institution of the Eucharist at the Last Supper and the beginning of Christ’s suffering and betrayal in the Garden of Gethsemane. Good Friday commemorates Christ’s passion and death on the cross. We reflect and await His Easter Sunday Resurrection.

On Holy Saturday at the Easter Vigil Mass, we have some students and their families coming into the Catholic Church. Please pray for them and congratulate them if you see them! We are so excited for them!

·      Bo (6th grade) and Harvey (8th grade) Reitinger

·      Logan (6th grade) and Finley (2nd grade) Peterson

·      Aila Catalano (2nd grade)

Easter Triduum Schedule

Holy Thursday: March 28, 6:30 PM

Good Friday: March 29, 6:30 PM

Easter Vigil: March 30, 8:30 PM

Easter Sunday: March 31, 9:00 AM Mass and 11:00 AM Mass – 9:00 AM Mass will be in the Church and Denning Hall. Fr. Tony Herold will be the celebrant in Denning Hall.

Easter Out of Uniform Day

We celebrate holidays at SPS with an out of uniform day. We realized we don’t do this for Easter, the MOST important holiday of our Christian calendar! So, this year on Easter Tuesday, April 2 (our first day back after Easter), students may be out of uniform if they wear their Easter clothes or Easter themed clothing. The following would be acceptable for students to wear:

·      Spring pastels

·      Easter themed t-shirts

·      Easter dresses and outfits

·      Easter headbands (as long as they don’t distract from learning)

Parish and School Faculty and Staff Appreciation Dinner

Friday, April 19, 2024, in Denning Hall

Help us show some love to our parish and school faculty and staff. Please join us to celebrate them on April 19, 2024, from 6-9 PM in Denning Hall with an open bar and a wonderful meal. The event is being sponsored by a group of parishioners, so there is no cost to attend. We would like you to be there to help say “Thank you”! Please email leigh.thompson@st-paul.pvt.k12.ia.us to register for the event by April 15.

ESA Update

With an eye toward the next school year, many of our families are looking forward to enrolling (or re-enrolling) their students in Education Savings Accounts (ESAs). Our latest information indicates that the first opportunity to sign up will be at 8 am on April 16th. We expect a few changes to the process - which may simplify the enrollment process. Once we are able to confirm the details, we’ll follow up with another email, so stay tuned!

Water Bottles

Since Christmas we have seen in increase in the type of water bottle that doesn’t fully close and have a straw. When these water bottles are knocked over or fall, they create water spills. With students using iPads at their desks, this causes a problem, along with the messes they create and the need for clean-up. The water bottles with straws only have also been leaking as students carry them down the hallway, which creates a safety problem for slips and falls. Going forward, all water bottles must fully close and have a pop-up spout. Thank you for your cooperation.

Plain Water Only in Water Bottles

Only plain water is allowed at school in water bottles. Please do not put flavor or energy powders in your child’s water.
