Principal Post

Apr 10, 2024

April 10, 2024

Dear Parents,

I missed getting my Principal Post out last week because I attended the National Catholic Education Association’s annual convention in Pittsburgh, PA. It was a wonderful conference, and I was able to attend several sessions on topics including family faith formation, Catholic school law in particular IEP’s, 504 plans and student handbooks, how listening positively impacts students, school choice initiatives, ministering to youth by Steve Angrisano, wonderful keynote speakers and Mass each day. To celebrate the Eucharist with 3000+ actively engaged and participating Catholic educators is very inspiring. Attending conferences like NCEA not only provides ongoing professional development, but also ongoing inspiration!

ISASP Assessments

Students in grades 3-8 are taking ISASP assessments the next two weeks. Please make sure to have your children at school on time during testing and make sure not to schedule appointments on these days in the morning. Also, please make sure that your children are well rested and have eaten a good breakfast. We have scheduled the assessments differently this year. Students in grades 3-8 take the assessments beginning at 8:00 AM on the following days:

·      April 10, Wednesday

·      April 15, Monday

1st Grade Teaching Position Open

Ms. Scogland was a wonderful addition to our faculty this year. She is moving and therefore will no longer be with us next year. We are sad to have her leave. I am thankful for the year she spent with us teaching our 1st grade students and wish her the best in her future endeavors. We will be praying for her success in her next steps in her career.

This leaves us with a 1st grade teaching position open. If you are interested or know of someone who would be interested in teaching at St. Paul’s, please send cover letters and resumes to me at Julie.Delaney@st-paul.pvt.k12.ia.us. Qualified candidates possess an Iowa teaching license with a strong knowledge of reading instruction and background in the Science of Reading. A practicing Catholic is preferred.

Parish and School Faculty and Staff Appreciation Dinner

Friday, April 19, 2024, in Denning Hall

Help us show some love to our parish and school faculty and staff. Please join us to celebrate them on April 19, 2024, from 6-9 PM in Denning Hall with an open bar and a wonderful meal. The event is being sponsored by a group of parishioners, so there is no cost to attend. We would like you to be there to help say “Thank you”! Please email leigh.thompson@st-paul.pvt.k12.ia.us to register for the event by April 15.

ESA Update

With an eye toward the next school year, many of our families are looking forward to enrolling (or re-enrolling) their students in Education Savings Accounts (ESAs). Our latest information indicates that the first opportunity to sign up will be at 8 am on April 16th. Registration will be open through June 30, 2024. We expect a few changes to the process - which may simplify the enrollment process. Once we have a link and more details, we’ll follow up with another email, so stay tuned!
