NEW INFO
SCIENCE FAIR JUDGES NEEDED
Hello St. Paul Families,
I am in search of volunteers with a strong science background or who are involved in a science or engineering career familiar with the steps and process of the scientific method.
Tuesday, February 4th from 8:00 to 10:30 is the 7th grade science fair. Students have worked for two and half months researching, setting up, and experimenting on a topic of their choice. I am seeking adult volunteers that would be willing to judge several seventh graders' overall experiment, presentation, report, and display. This would all be judged using a provided rubric.
One request I have is that if you are the parent, grandparent, or directly connected to any seventh graders you are kindly asked not to volunteer to keep judging as fair as possible.
If you or someone you know is interested, please reach out to Mrs. Kari Nydle at kari.nydle@st-paul.pvt.k12.ia.us.
Thank you so much for considering!

QC SYMPHONY
The Quad City Symphony is offering an incredible experience for our students and families. On Sunday, February 2nd, at 2:00, at AUGUSTANA'S CENNTENIAL HALL, SPS students and families are invited to attend the Masterworks performance of Omar's Journey (see description below). The cost is minimal: FREE for students and $5.00 for accompanying adults. The only "catch" is that I must order the tickets in advance as a school group. (Tickets will be picked up at the day of the concert at Will Call).
I would LOVE to see a group of SPS students and families attending this event!
Please sign up on the linked sign-up genius by Friday, January 24th, so that I can get our numbers to the Symphony coordinator.

Join us for a landmark performance of Omar’s Journey, a concert opera adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning work by Rhiannon Giddens and Michael Abels. It shares the powerful story of Omar Ibn Said from his freedom in West Africa to enslavement in South Carolina. Through a breathtaking fusion of West African musical traditions and classical opera, brought to life by a cast of world-class artists, “Omar’s Journey” promises an unforgettable exploration of resilience, faith, and the enduring human spirit.
Masterworks IV: Omar’s Journey
February 2, 2025 @ 2:00 PM - Centennial Hall (with pre-concert activities for students in grades K-6 from 1:00 - 2:00 PM hosted by Common Chord)

REGISTRATION FOR CAMP SHALOM OPENS MONDAY, JANUARY 20th!
In this world filled with technology and distraction, it is so important for your children to have time and space to play, laugh, and worship away from the noise. Camp Shalom is a perfect place for spending time in a place apart! Camp Shalom is a non-denominational Christian camp nestled in the woods near Maquoketa. This amazing camp is sure to provide your child with wonderful memories of fun and games, as well as wonderful experiences filled with Christ's love. Camp Shalom also fosters independence, and kids come away feeling more assured of themselves and of their relationships with others, as well as with God!
The campgrounds include woodland trails, high and low ropes challenge courses, an archery range, canoeing, a soccer field, campfire circles, and more. The staff are committed Christians who seek to serve and nurture faith in others. Certified in first aid and CPR, the staff complete an intensive 2-week training program to prepare themselves to work with campers. If your child has gone to camp, you know how awesome the staff is!
New this year:
The Adventure Program! Campers will have more flexibility in their day as they will be able to choose nature, crafts, sports, or "launch" activities, separate from their cabin choices. Campers will meet more friends, build skills, and explore what they love!
Camp Shalom is a gift that your children will appreciate for years to come. It can be life changing! Summer Camp Registration now open online. Registration can be found by visiting the Camp Shalom website: campshalomia.org Questions? Email- campshalom@gmail.com
P.S. Camp Shalom is also in need of summer staff for this summer! Young adults who have finished their sophomore year in high school can apply to volunteer as assistant counselors. Young adults who have finished their junior year in high school can apply to be on staff! Working at Camp Shalom is hard, but so rewarding. Most staff members return year after year, and create lifelong friendships. If someone you know may be interested, they can apply at campshalomia.org.
